Excerpt from the Project Description:
What is the essence of celebrity or stardom, how are they portrayed? What are the attitudes associated with this social strata. Is the photographer interpreting or is the photographer recording? Do you need props and lighting or is it strictly attitude? Does location play a part in recognition? Now contrasting that idea of celebrity, with same person – now photograph them as a Nerd. Focus on exposure, lighting, and composition and perspective. The image should convey the attitudes and style, of the kind of
Celebrity you are creating embodies.
Observations about Nerd/Rock star Portraits
Nerds are often photographed with a serious or enthusiastic expression while rock stars tend to have serious or dramatic/intense expressions. The main props used for nerds are glasses, while rock stars are often photographed with a mic/guitar or drumsticks. Nerds tend to have relatively even lighting where rock stars have more and darker shadows. Rock stars are also often portrayed on a darker background.
Challenge
Focus on Expression, Composition, Lighting and Perspective in order to create the two portraits without relying on props or locations. Challenging myself to use the before mentioned elements to create recognizable portraits with appropriate moods. Especially want to get away from using glasses as a crutch in order to depict nerds.
Composition
More energetic composition for the rock star through the use of diagonals, angles, and deeper shadows. Open and friendly atmosphere for the nerd through even lighting, straight on portrait, controlled verticals and horizontals.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
